100th Blog Post Celebration: a dinner party & giveaway!

Well here we are..100 posts later, lots of food consumed, money well spent, and pretty full of food and happiness. When we realized we were nearing our 100th post milestone we contemplated the ways to celebrate. It only seemed fitting that we host a dinner party since what we do on this blog is cook, eat, and talk. Plus we love a good party! So it was decided: a dinner party for the dearest friends of Nosh & Tell. The menu? Eggplant, Squash, Tomato and Pesto Tarts; Chopped Salad; Julia Child’s Bouef Bourguignon (Kosher style); Mashed Potatoes; and then Fruit Pizza for dessert. Perfect.

Aside from four sink fulls of dishes, the dinner party went off without a hitch. We had an incredible meal, great company, and lots of wine! The only thing we could have used was a massive air conditioner, remember it gets hot when you’ve got the oven on in the summer y’all! So here’s the run down of the meal. We, of course, had a cheese and cracker plate (Whit’s fave) complete with Gouda, cheddar, and Manchego cheese with some fig preserves on the side for everyone to enjoy while we finished up the cooking.

For our first course we had Eggplant, Squash, Tomato, and Pesto Tarts that Ariel adapted from Stacey’s Snacks. Ariel added some squash and caramelized onions on top–they were divine. Here at Nosh & Tell we firmly believe that anything with pie crust and puff pastry is delicious. This was no exception, and to Ariel’s credit it wasn’t only the puff pastry that made them so good!

The pesto is made from walnuts so it gives it a richer and creamier flavor, baked in with the puff pastry and roasted veggies it’s a buttery, flakey, delicious, amazing, tart. Our friend Elise was nice enough to make a Chopped Salad for us and it was a great. Colorful, summery, and tasty. Thank you Elise, we love you!

She also made us some Mashed Potatoes which she likes to call “Mashers” that paired perfectly with Whitney’s kosher rendition of Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon. You may have read Whit’s post about how much she loved Julie & Julia so it was a no-brainer to cook this dish for our main meal to celebrate 100 posts. Especially after Whit’s mom gave her her own copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking a few weeks ago.

It’s baby Whitney with her Grandmother eating her first birthday cake–first taste of Buttercream Frosting!

Since Ariel keeps Kosher we adjusted the recipe a tad bit, substituting chicken fat in place of bacon and using Kosher beef and beef stock. It turned out wonderfully. The mashers complemented the richness of the beef perfectly. The meat just melted in your mouth while the pearl onions and carrots added a little sweetness to combat the rich, savory flavors of the sauce.

We were all stuffed after this but we saddled up for some dessert–a sweet and light Fruit Pizza which is one of Whit’s favorite fruity desserts. You can find the recipe here, it is soooo easy and with summer fruit it was extra delicious. Top it all off with some great wine, and we had a feast fit for the most prestigious of foodies.

Reflecting on these past 5 months and 100 posts a lot comes to mind: butter, weight gain, sugar, cooking breakdowns, pesto, S’mores bars, tons of fun, lots of laughs, more butter, money spent, friends made, lessons learned, and lives changed. We truly had no idea how much this blog would come to mean to us, and without you all reading this post it wouldn’t exist. At our 100th blog post celebration dinner party we toasted to our friends in attendance and now it’s time to toast you all who are out there reading this. We would love love love to giveaway a cookbook that that we have mentioned a few times on Nosh & Tell. It has over 1,000 recipes, many cooking tips, and some of the best recipes we’ve tried. It is a must! So we want one of y’all to have it too!

If you have a Twitter it would be great if you could follow us on that too and “Re-Tweet” our giveaway, but we won’t hold it against you if you don’t. Ariel & Whitney

One of my favorite cookbooks (at least right now) is Martha Stewart's Cupcake Cookbook! (ok her cookie one too!) :o )

  • LPers

i love this blog. its extremely inspiring how passionate you both are about cooking. and your pictures always make everything look so delicious! :)

I have two favorites for cookbooks – the first is an old lebanese cookbook from my grandmother. Its simply called Lebanese Cuisine and is written in both Arabic and English. The recipes are (relaively) easy and so flavorful — its all in the spices! For a close second I'll have to go with Martha Stewart Cookies. Umm, Table of Contents in pictures?! What more can I say…

  • Stacey Snacks
